In 2012, the Colombe Foundation launched the “Pentagon Budget Campaign,” a multi-year effort to reduce the top-line Pentagon budget. The Campaign is uniquely powerful because it includes ideologically-diverse organizations spanning the political spectrum, from the National Taxpayers Union and Americans for Tax Reform to Win Without War and the Coalition on Human Needs, all working together towards the common goal of right-sizing the Pentagon budget. Since it doesn’t seek to reach agreement on where any potential savings would be directed, it creates space for unique collaborations. Because of this and its trusted research and advocacy, the Campaign is regularly consulted by politically-diverse legislative groups, from the House Freedom Caucus to the Progressive Caucus. The Campaign provides central infrastructure, a rapid response funding mechanism, and grants to its coalition partners. It was launched at a meeting hosted by the Arca Foundation and has attracted several other co-funders, including the Arca Foundation, Compton Foundation, and Fund for Non-violence
In 2014, the Colombe Foundation made grants to several organizations for their participation in and development of the Pentagon Budget Campaign.
