Since 1948, millions of Palestinians have lived in temporary refugee camps, where they have suffered from neglect and lack of opportunity. Higher education provides a pathway to economic and social stability for Palestine refugees and is a key ingredient in building a more peaceful future for Palestinians, Israelis, and the peoples of the Middle East. However, the cost of a university education is prohibitive for many refugee students. Many students who graduate from United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) schools with high grades cannot afford to enroll in a university without scholarship help. The Foundation for Middle East Peace’s support for UNRWA USA’s University Scholarship Fund seeks to help these students to realize their full potential and lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
In 2015 the Foundation for Middle East Peace made a $30,000 grant to UNRWA for a program that provides scholarships to Palestinian refugees to enable them to attend local universities.
